TYPICA wins “Good Design Best 100” and “Good Focus Award” at the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2021.
We are pleased to announce that TYPICA has been selected as one of the “Good Design Best 100” in the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2021 (commonly known as “G Mark”) sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. TYPICA has also received the special reward, “Good Focus Award [New Business Design] (Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Councilor for Commerce and Services Award)”.
Excellent business models that contribute to fostering innovation
The Good Focus Award [New Business Design] is a special award selected from the Good Design Best 100 and is presented to new business models or new industries that promote innovation and outstanding design.
A triple-win business that solves structural issues in the coffee industry
The reasons for the award and the judges’ evaluations are as follows:
“One of the problems coffee farms face is the loss of income due to the large number of middlemen. Moreover, coffee beans are usually sold in bulk based on the coffee origin, so even if a farm has high quality beans, many are not rewarded as they should be. Such structural issues of the coffee production industry make it difficult for many farms to make profit from coffee beans.
TYPICA has made it possible for coffee producers and roasters in the city to directly trade green coffee beans from one jute bag. It made it possible to distribute coffee beans from 21 countries to 38 countries around the world. This means that if you make good beans, coffee producers – no matter how small – can trade their coffee at a fair price. The wholesale price for producers can be 30 times higher than the market price.
In addition, small roasters can source beans from a variety of farms and offer unique flavors. As a result, coffee lovers are able to drink better, delicious coffee. This is truly a triple-win approach for producers, roasters and coffee lovers.”
Selected by the Jury Committee to be exhibited at the “GOOD DESIGN Marunouchi”
In addition to the two awards mentioned above, we were also selected as one of the “My Favorite Design” by the Good Design Award Jury Committee. An exhibition will be held to introduce the award-winning designs where jurys from the 2021 Good Design Award Jury Committee have selected their personal favorites along with their comments. “My Favorite Design – The selection from Good Design Award 2021” exhibit will be held at GOOD DESIGN Marunouchi from October 20 (Wed) to November 24 (Wed).
About the Good Design Award
The Good Design Award is a movement to evaluate and promote Japanese design and it succeeds the Good Design Product Selection System established in 1957. It is a design award with many companies and organizations from both Japan and abroad participating, and it is held every year with the aim of improving the quality of life and utilizing design to solve social issues. The “G Mark”, the symbol of the award, is widely known as a symbol of outstanding design.
